Matcha is a fine powder made from green tea leaves that have undergone steam fixation and precise grinding. In recent years, amid the booming development of the new-style tea beverage industry, matcha drinks have continued to surge in popularity. Major brands have launched numerous new matcha products, which have been well-received by consumers and driven the rapid development of the entire industry. Data shows that in the first quarter of this year in China, Zhejiang exported 1,241.97 tons of matcha with a value of 140 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.3 times.
According to statistics, among 42 surveyed tea beverage brands in 2025, 27 launched matcha products, accounting for over 60% of the total. A total of 102 new matcha products were recorded, and their proportion in tea-containing products rose from 6.3% in 2024 to 7.6%. This has also boosted order volumes for upstream matcha manufacturers.
China is the world’s largest producer of matcha. In 2025, the national matcha output exceeded 12,000 tons, accounting for nearly 70% of the global total. Driven by the growing downstream demand, more and more enterprises have sensed business opportunities and rushed to enter this new blue ocean in the tea beverage sector.
