Recently, the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China, and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly released the new standard GB 2763-2026, the "National Food Safety Standard - Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Food."
This new standard will officially come into effect on March 1, 2026, and will replace the current standards GB 2763-2021 and GB 2763.1-2022.
This new standard makes important adjustments to pesticide residue limits in tea. Based on the unchanged limit values of the original 110 pesticide residues, it adds limit standards for two new pesticides — Flonicamid and Fenpyroximate.
Currently, GB 2763-2026 stipulates that the maximum residue limit for Flonicamid in tea is 15 mg/kg (residue defined as Flonicamid), and the maximum residue limit for Fenpyroximate is 8 mg/kg (residue defined as Fenpyroximate).
Once the new standard is officially implemented, China's total maximum pesticide residue limits for tea will reach 112 items. This means that tea production and consumption will be subject to stricter supervision, and the quality and safety of tea will be further guaranteed.
The pesticide residue limit indicators for tea stipulated in the National Food Safety Standard (GB 2763) are as follows:
